History of School
Scoil Mhuire, Brierhill moved to its current location in 1953. Prior to this, it was a two-teacher school located half a kilometre to the west in Brierhill. When the school was built in 1953, it moved from the townland of Brierhill to Breánlocháin but it was decided to retain the Brierhill name. Some years later it became a three-teacher school, and an extra classroom was added to the existing structure. In 1975 a new wing was built adding another classroom and a general-purpose hall.
Because of development in the locality, the school has increased from being a four-teacher school to its present position as an 18-teacher school comprising of 10 mainstream teachers, an administrative principal, 2 autism class teachers and 8 support teachers. In 2008 we opened our first autism class to cater for pupils with autism and in 2018 we opened a second autism class, and there are now 12 pupils in the classes. We also have 10 special needs assistants.
